I prefer games, animes aren't bad but games are much better. Especially when some titles are first games and than they're made into anime ('Tales of Phantasia' dear God...). During playing games you can (it's far more easier) identify with some characters, when during watching anime it's harder for me, because I'm only watcher, no part of it( as player). Games world are normally more complicated, there are mazes to run through and puzzles to solution. In anime paths are simpler and there are no side-quests TT. Another aspect is that some of games titles CAN'T be transform into animes, because they aren't just simple games but some kind of art.
But animes have their lighter side also. I'll explain it on example of 'Tales of the Abyss' and my not-connected-by-blood sister. She hasn't PS2, and when she was at my place for few days she liked this title. Only solution for her was to watch anime (but when she'll be at my home again we'll play, definitely).
I agree with everything you said; I like games so much more than anime; I really don't even watch much anime. Games just enthrall me so much more and touch me a lot deeper as well, like you said.

You get to play out the story and control it.

Pergunta má, pergunta má XD
E se fosse entre anime e mangá?
